Frustration bubbles up
Friends, I am having a very frustrating week! In spite of all my efforts, my two weeks on plan, my committed exercise, drinking all my water?..my scale has moved up the past two days in a row! Half a pound yesterday, half a pound today. I can excuse one day as an anomaly, but this seems to be almost a trend! And I just can?t have it! I NEED to continue losing so that I keep contributing to the Hottie success, AND so that I look my absa-fantabulos-oriffic best in my wedding dress when it?s time to start alterations ? which is only about 6 weeks from now!

I know that ups & downs are normal?.but it?s just so difficult to focus on that when I?m working SO hard. Normally if I see a little uptick like that I can pinpoint a reason for it. Like, Oh, I ate a lot of salt yesterday and didn?t get enough water. Or, hey, I skipped a workout yesterday, etc. But this week I have been perfect!! Why won?t my horrid scale cooperate with me! ARRRGH!

I just needed to get that out of my system. I?m hoping against all hope that this is just a weird uptick, and that if I keep doing the right things and sticking to my plan, it?ll drop back in the right direction. But it?s just a level of stress that I don?t need right now, y?know?

If anyone has ideas for how I can shake up my routine to bust out of this funk, while still staying on track, I?m all ears.

I will note one thing, that?s different this time though. In the past if I had been working this hard and seen any ?upward? movement of the scale I probably would have thrown in the towel and said ?To hell with it then! If I do everything right & these are my results, then I?ll just go back to doing everything wrong!?. But this time that doesn?t even cross my mind. I WANT to keep pushing through and get that number down?.but if I get through an ENTIRE week on plan and see a GAIN on Sunday?.I may very well lose it!!!
Well, you could try shocking your body with some other kind of workout. Instead of running, maybe try a stair stepper or maybe running at a higher intensity. And, i know this sounds funny but you could also try resting a couple of days and just focus on your food. Then go back to your workout. Shock the body that way. I took a rest a couple of days and lost 2 pounds and then started running again and ran even longer and lost 3 more. worked for me.
Hey don’t be so hard on yourself. Your body weight will fluctuate throughout the week- try not to weight everyday, you will drive yourself crazy! Keep up the good work you’ve done so far!! I’m sure you will look GREAT in your wedding dress.
Oh dear Kari…it worries me that you say that if you see a gain, you’ll throw in the towel. If you’re making changes and then go back to your old habits, then you’ll be back to where you started and you’ll be yo-yo’ing for the rest of your life. Aren’t these habits for good? I hope you don’t throw in the towel Sunday, whatever happens.
Kari,
One thing you should think of also is that muscle weighs more than fat…you could weigh a little more simply because you have been building some muscle - this is why it is a good idea to also measure yourself - I know in the past there have been times I have gained weight but lost inches - could be what is happening to you. I agree with Betsy that it is not good to weigh yourself everyday - I know it is tempting - but I am like you and if I weigh more then it bombs my whole day - Keep up the good work, I know the payoff will be what you are looking for….
I’m going to tell you the same thing I told Nikki to do — change up your calorie range from one day to the next. One day, 1200-1500, the next 1800-2000. When you eat the same amount of calories everyday, your body will get used to eat and it thinks that is what it needs and will hang on to it. If you mix it up, it gets confused and you will lose. As WW also said, change up your exercise, or take a day off. If you exercise everyday, and the same way everyday, its what the body get used to, and the same thing will happen. It’ll hang on to it. I’m waiting with baited breath to see how Nikki does this week. Hope that helps — and don’t be discouraged…..you’re doing great!! OH…and stress makes you hang on to fat too…so just take a few deep breaths, tell yourself you will NEVER throw in the towel cause this means too much to you, and take one day at a time. You can do this….we all know you can. Have a little faith in yourself! Peace Out….

UGH…You know…I have been thinking alot about this to…
Kari, you have been at this for a while…And really, I am convinced as you get closer to goal, its simply harder…
Your body has adjusted to all the new tricks and moves, the calories, etc…This is great for us to maintain over time, but it sure doesnt help with the weight loss…
I too, am in need of a shake up…I think thats what you need too…
Good luck!
You will look beautiful regardless on your wedding day, tho…Truly…

Ok girl, get a hold of yourself. You know that our weight fluctuates day to day for many different reasons, so even though this is frustrating, Sunday is not here yet and so let’s not get ahead of ourselves, please!
One question…are you tracking every single morsel you put in your mouth? I don’t mean to sound like I am looking at holes in your efforts but sometimes, we have to go back to basics.
You have been working so hard that I am sure this is just a fluke. I am sure that when Sunday rolls around, the weight will come back down.
Hang in there babe!!
Remember that muscle weighs more than fat!
I know that it can be hard, but we have all been there.. Just keep swimmin…
Kari,
I know how you feel. I was slowly gaining a few weeks ago when I was staying completely on track. The next week wasn’t much better, but finally this week I have busted through my plateau. I threw in the towel for a weekend along the way, and while that didn’t help really, it may have shaken up my routine just enough to pull out of this rut. I wouldn’t recommend eating as poorly as I did, but it may help to up your calories for a day or two, like other ladies have said!
Another thing I would say is to change your workout routine. This week I started going for shorter runs but did them more days during the week. I also added a little bike ride and increased my strength training by doing it every day, rotating upper body, legs, and core, doing only one group per day. It seems to have shaken things up enough for me!
I also moved my workouts to the evening, and I don’t know if that helped or not, but I know it helps my metabolism while I’m sleeping and I know it keeps me from eating those 500 or 600 calorie dinners and snacking that I would normally be doing.
I feel your frustration though. Hang in there, and keep up the great work! Once your body gets over whatever it is going through, that weight will drop off like it should have been doing all along!

I think that because you’re getting closer to your goal, your body is getting used to the food you’re eating and the workouts you’re doing. Change things around, and I’m sure you’ll see results again soon. Hang in there, you’re doing SOO good!
